Bush's plans to subject Iraq to the most radical forms of capitalism are as responsible as the war itself for the destruction of Iraq.Iraqis have been brutalized not only by bombs and bullets; they've also been the victims of economic violence in the form of the free market "shock therapy" cooked up by a firm in Virginia on a $250 million no-bid contract before the U.S. invasion. Tranforming Iraq's economy overnight was a matter of ideology trumping commonsense, and it's killed thousands of innocent Iraqis and shattered a way of life for hundreds of thousands more.
The Occupation is Killing us all
‘Don’t blow up,’ says my friend Jeff Halper’s daughter as he and I headed off downtown to his son’s West Jerusalem bar. His daughter lost a friend to a suicide bomb. At night West Jerusalem is a ghost town.
‘Richard! Richard! You mustn’t stop! There are snipers!’ This from a Palestinian friend in Beit Jala as I paused, in March this year, to take a picture of one of the many posters of dead people – martyrs to the struggle, people killed by Israeli attacks – that adorn the walls of all Palestinian towns. Later, when we emerged from an interview with a terrified and angry Palestinian writer, we ran into (and away from) an armoured personnel carrier of the Israeli Defense Force (IDF).

Lawmakers told security at Canadian border is lacking
"The movement of persons with possible terrorist connections into the U.S. from Canada is of grave concern to the Coast Guard and all of our (Department of Homeland Security) partners, as well as our Canadian partners," Brennan said Tuesday at Selfridge Air National Guard Base not far from the Canadian border.
“Carpenters are running out of wood for coffins”
“Carpenters are running out of wood for coffins,” according to another Times report. “Bodies are stacked three or four high in a truck at the local hospital morgue. The stench is spreading in the rubble.
“The morbid reality of Israel’s bombing campaign of the south is reaching almost every corner of this city...[W]ild dogs gnawed at the charred remains of a family bombed as they were trying to escape the village of Hosh, officials said. Officials at the Tyre Government Hospital inside a local Palestinian refugee camp said they counted the bodies of 50 children among the 115 in the refrigerated truck in the morgue.”
It's a small world, anthrax division
Before I leap back into the world of boycotts, a slight detour into the subject of the American anthrax attacks:
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld owns a considerable number of shares in a corporation called Gilead Sciences;
Gilead owns the intellectual property rights to Tamiflu;
Tamiflu is a pharmaceutical touted by the Bush Administration as a remedy for anthrax (although in fact it is not indicated for anthrax);
the anthrax attacks on the United States vastly increased the demand for Tamiflu, and thus increased the value of Gilead, and thus made Rumsfeld a lot of money;
Biodiesel For The Revolution: I Don't Think So
As biodiesel becomes increasingly popular, we need a sobering reality check about its "sustainability". As a potential solution to the crisis of disappearing oil reserves and climate change, there is a lot more to the picture than dumpster diving french fry grease to run hippie buses. We are now at a point where there is more demand for biodiesel than can be provided by used cooking oil. "If the entire annual output of used vegetable oil were diverted into the fossil fuel market, it would last us 36 hours," according to Alexis Ziegler. The specter of industrial agriculture growing acres of genetically engineered mono crops in order to continue to power inefficient large vehicles is anything but green.

Hezbollah, Hamas and Israel: Everything You Need To Know
The guiding rule in this tsunami of drivel is that the viewers should be denied the slightest access to any historical context, or indeed to anything that happened prior to June 28, which was when the capture of an Israeli soldier and the killing of two others by Hamas hit the headlines, followed soon thereafter by an attack by a unit of Hezbollah’s fighters.
Memory is supposed to stop in its tracks at June 28, 2006.
China Tightening Control Over Tibet
China's Communist Party has been tightening its grip on Tibet in recent months, resorting to language and measures not seen since the repression of the late 1990s, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Alta. premier says long-range oilsands plan would impede development
Alberta doesn’t need a long-range plan for the oilsands because that would impede development, says Premier Ralph Klein. Klein dismissed a call by the Pembina Institute for a moratorium on oilsands development until a comprehensive plan is developed. “The Pembina Institute should keep their noses out of anyone’s business, especially businesses that want to take risks,” Klein said yesterday. “To have a long-range plan would be an interventionist kind of policy which says you either allow them or you don’t allow them (to proceed). The last thing we want to be is an interventionist government,” he added.
(Aha ha ha "The last thing we want to be is an interventionist government."
Boycott Israel To End The Military Occupation
This website has been set up for two main purposes: - To help people who want to boycott produce from Israel and illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, by providing sources of information about companies, products etc. - To act as an educational resource... many people have not the foggiest idea of the war crimes, human rights abuses and flagrant breaches of international humanitarian law that are regularly committed by the Israeli Government and its armed forces (the IDF) in the what remains of Palestine. The many links on this page will lead you to valuable sources of information. Lest there be any doubt on the subject, this site is not anti-Jewish. Many of the sites linked to on this page are run by Jews and/or Israeli citizens who are at the forefront of efforts to secure peace and justice in the Middle East.
